Saturday 30 March 2013

165km today, the odometer went past
2000, so over 1000 in the last week, woo hoo. haven broken any spokes for about 200km witch is awsome, one is broken and I've been waiting for another to go to make pulling the  wheel off more worthwhile. if none go I'l do it at Coonabarabran  ( 55km or so). I'm next to a spectacular mountain range at the moment, spectacular cliffs.

Friday 29 March 2013

Ive been seeing heaps of silos next to the railway lines, seriously impressive structures and it really hilights the impotence of rail in our transport system, sadly it seems to be increasingly taken over by trucks ( that constantly pass me out here)

fairly crap afternoon yesterday  cold wet and windy brief discussion with the cops, they'd had calls that Id been ' in the middle of the road' well middle of the lane as I was sick of fighting the camber to stay on the road and was pissed of about a flat caused by pulling off to the side. fair enough though it was a 110 section of road, I fought the shoulder from then on. at least I made good mileage and had a nice sunset at the end of the day.
and to day I got to drop in to the parks radio telescope, it broadcast part of the first lunar landing and I beleave at least was the largest in the southern hemisphere.

Wednesday 27 March 2013

  1. crap weather  (headwinds, rain and no sun) and spokes breaking daily  but somehow being in an interesting town makes it posable to see the positives  I now have some really good replacement spokes, so the more spokes that break the fewer old ones are left in the wheel to break. breaking spokes are simperly an opotunity to slowy respoke my wheel. ( and Im becoming pretty quick with the whole procedure. and bad weather is just a chance to walk arond and check oult what the town has to offer. its all in the mentality.

Tuesday 26 March 2013

another shortish day, 147km, 38ah used 48 in, replaced 5 or so broken spokes and a dead tube ( torn at the valve) sort of a relief because it has an increasingly not so slow leak. it is always a pain in the ass getting the back wheel on and of as everything has to come with it. quote of the day, form a local pub from a little locality, if you cant laugh, your f***ed  a good life philosperpy

Monday 25 March 2013

only 130 or so km today, 1 flat tire, 1 warped front wheel ( smashed into a pothole leaving the campsite this morining) and a new rear tire, the original one was vearry, slick. 44ah in 26 oult, a big net battery charge. finshed in just parst yarawanga, posably the last victorian camp for a wile.

Sunday 24 March 2013

second night parst melbourne, I only did 140ish today, going for battery charging rather than great progress. I'm 30km or so from shepperton camped under river gums.

Monday 18 March 2013

this week Im at enviroment week at the brias, showing kids a difrent style of recycling and transport.

Friday 15 March 2013

made it to the Mornington peninsula last night, almost to where I was staying almoast being give or take 10km. in the morning I figured that I had at least 30ah of battery, plus whatever I could pull in from the sun. it turns out I only had at most 23ah stored. darn.
This sharp realisation occur'd at night, about 205km after Wilsons prom, on the free way   witch witch had a really good shoulder and was way safer than most of the hiways Id been on all day. it was also a fundamental part of the directions I had been given.
of cause when I loose power I also loose lights, and inevitably a cop car pulled up apparently they'd had reports of some weird tricycle on the road and didn't know what to expect, they were really good, especially considering that I was technically illegally on the road (side) and had just lost my lights. it seemed to make their night far more interesting and wile one looked at my ID the outer was asking if he could take a photo. pretty quickly my friend turned up with a Ute and the cops helped us load up, thanks guys.
it was a tense time but a good learning experience with no fine, or broken things so a good lesson. stop at 50V.
the best part is that the cops took a photo

Wednesday 13 March 2013

today I walked to south point, the moast sotherly point of the australian mainland. one down, 3 to go.

Monday 11 March 2013

first day today, and no breakages, woo hoo, the send of was good, the sun was powerfull and I did 130km in the afternoon, good milage.

Friday 8 March 2013

only 2 days to go now before the treak starts. I finally lined up mark one, two, three and four for a photo, it was really great to see the progression. its a lot of bike.

Wednesday 6 March 2013

last weekend the trike went for its first serious test ride, 160km ( partly threw the bush) to (f)routeville, ( an art, fruit and social enterprise event) the trike did well with good mileage ( wh/km)  and no breakdowns, not even a flat tire, such a relief.
my department date is looming, march 11 is only 4 days away, scary close. I'm leaving from the suitability festival at the Orbost show at around 12-12.30.
a few people have asked about donating to the trip, http://www.gofundme.com/27e6oo is probably the way to go.
